K-Kim Cattle Company is a family owned ranching operation located in southeast Nebraska north of Beatrice. Starting with one Shorthorn pair in 1990, the operation has grown to consist of 180 Purebred Shorthorn breeding females and 200 commercial cows that are utilized in an extensive ET program and are the foundation of our expanding Shorthorn Plus herd. We have also added select Chiangus, Maintainer, and percentage Simmental genetics to the program. These females are mated to our Shorthorn herd bull battery to produce cattle that will excel in any arena.
The ranch headquarters are located on US HWY 77 at the Pickrell Exit, approximately 6 miles north of Beatrice, or 33 miles south of Interstate 80 at Lincoln, exit 397. Donor females currently in transplant, show and sale cattle, and our sales facility are located here. Five annual sales take place. “The Bull Sale” takes place in mid March. 50 to 60 Purebred and several Shorthorn Plus yealing bulls sell, along with all of our fall born Purebred and Plus heifer calves. Several yearling heifers also sell. On the Friday evening before “The Bull Sale” we will be conducting “The Prelude”. This sale will be held out on the deck overlooking the donor pen and will feature embryos, flushes and semen from the heart of our program. In mid September, another “Prelude” sale will be held on the Saturday evening prior to our annual “Genetics in Motion” female sale. The last weekend in October is reserved for our private treaty club calf sale. We combine forces with several cattlemen in our area to provide a top set of steers and heifers of various breeds and crossbreds.
Summer pastures are located in Gage and Thayer counties in Nebraska, near the Kansas boarder. Visitors are welcome to view the cowherd and calf crop at any time. Just contact us at the office and we will be happy to show you the cattle “in their working clothes”.
